I must say I've been consistently impressed by cinema this year. I've loved Cloverfield, No Country for Old Men, Be Kind Rewind, and The Orphanage is probably going to be my favourite film of this year. Anyone else? I thought There Will Be Blood was ace and should have won Best Picture Oscar.  It had a lot more going for it than No Country for Old Men . Cloverfield was okay - just all a bit dull.   30 Days of Night was pretty good up to the last act when the time _frame_ (30 days, get it?) was all over the place. My favourite film of the year  (or did it come out last year?) was The Last Winter - a brilliant and very effective eco-horror flick set in the melting Alaskan ice fields...

then you'll go on to pick fault with it for not being mature science fiction! You gets what you pays for. In fairness, he's not the only one here doing that. I'm starting to despair at the number of grown adults who seem to feel Dr Who should be deeply meaningful, highbrow adult entertainment. Phil

I saw Iron Man the other day, one of the best blockbusters of recent years IMO. Is the new Incredible Hulk film any good or just another reboot of the previous rubbish?
